Life Is Beautiful

An Open Letter to Jimmy Fallon

Who doesn’t love Jimmy Fallon?

I’m going out on a weird and possibly shaky writing limb today but it’s Monday and I’m feeling particularly brave.

Through a friend’s blog I found a very cool other blog (I went down the blogging rabbit hole, basically) that offers these sweet writing prompts. Some are crazy. Some are fun. All are thought-provoking. The prompt that piqued my interest most challenged me to write an open letter to a celebrity.

Right off the top of my blonde head I could come up with at least five celebs I could chastise for this behavior or that. I could tell at least a dozen to get their collective crap together and stop embarrassing their mothers with their ridiculous behavior.

But I’m not going to.

I wanted to pen a letter to a celebrity who does something good: makes people laugh.  So here goes in true Jimmy thank-you letter fashion. (Think Jimmy will ever read this? I’m dreaming…)

Dear Jimmy Fallon:

Thank you for always making us laugh. Gosh, every night is hysterical. It’s good medicine.

Thank you that even when you’re jabbing a celebrity or politician, you’re still being pretty nice about it and it feels just funny and not mean-spirited. You’re a nice guy, Jimmy. This is why we love you.

Thank you for showing us what hard work and big dreams look like. We “remember when” you were working your way up in celebrity status and we love that you’re still a regular guy.

Thank you for being clean-ish. If my children walk in the room when you’re on (and why are they up at this hour anyhow??), I don’t have to worry too much about what they might hear.

Thank you for lip sync battles! Oh my gosh, they are the best! I still can’t get the mental picture of Tom Cruise singing “Can’t Feel My Face” out of my head (and now neither will you, sweet readers!)

Thank you for letting us all feel like kids again when we watch you. Your child-like kindness, character, and sense of humor, and your ability to just let go and laugh out loud is the pause the refreshes.

Laughter is so important and you remind us of this five nights a week with your antics and games.

Where else can we see grown men get slapped across the face with giant hands when playing cards or watch J-Law (Jennifer Lawrence) play Box of Lies? Nowhere but on The Tonight Showing Starring Jimmy Fallon, that’s where.

Thank you for your friendship with Justin Timberlake. You two are a match made in entertainment Heaven, Jimmy.

Jimmy + JT = Endless laughter and awesomeness.

We simply cannot get enough.

Thank you for letting us “little people” be part of your show: in the live audience but also in your #hashtag segments. (And maybe someday my bucket list item #4, Meet Jimmy Fallon, will be realized!)

Thank you for being real. You’re never afraid to laugh at yourself and be utterly silly.  I never feel like you’re anything but genuine and true to who you inherently are.

And finally and perhaps most importantly, thank you for Lionel Richie’s head. I’m still laughing. Well done, Jimmy.

Love,

Melanie

I need your help: If you or someone  you know is interested in sharing your domestic abuse story with me, please see the info at my previous post. Be assured your name and details can be changed to protect your identity. My voice is strong. Your voice with mine is stronger still.
