Give Your Children the World (Without Leaving the House)

We have a pretty amazing world, don’t you agree? Most of us are experts about our own area: our home, neighborhood, town, schools. We’re taught a very young age to memorize our home address. Our immediate world is familiar, comfortable.

We want to broaden our own horizons and those of our children and teach them about the world, other cultures, and how they’re both similar and different from our own culture.

When I was a child, we made several family trips to Canada, where my grandmother was from. Those visits and family reunions are some of the my favorite childhood memories. I remember witnessing a couple speaking French in a restaurant and how fascinating that was to me. I was about five years old and that was the first time I’d heard of the French language. Or of France.

I still enjoying recalling the details of those trips to my children and tell them how napkins in Canada are “serviettes” and couches are “Chesterfields.” Although the differences may be small between Canada and our home in the U.S., they’re still interesting and fun to explore and learn about. And of course, we love the cool accent.

The book Give Your Child the World: Raising Globally Minded Kids One Book at a Time by Jamie C. Martin, is a unique, valuable, and entertaining way to show your children the world, right from the comfort of your own home.

I sat by the edge of the island, watching God show off. If you’ve ever had the chance to visit Hawaii, you know that’s what He likes to do there.

In this book, you gain access to special insight into Jamie’s own international, multicultural experiences and you learn how to bring the world home to your family through cooking foreign cuisine, watching movies, or tuning into (good) news from around the globe, and even learning some foreign language.

This remarkable book lists and describes other books appropriate for each age group and culture including some of my personal favorites of Anne of Green Gables, Island of the Blue Dolphins, and Shades of Gray, a book about the Civil War.

I’m so delighted with this rich resource that I’d like you to benefit from it as well and bring it into your home to share with your family. I’m giving away a fresh, new copy for one blessed winner. Simply leave a comment on this post and that will count as your entry!

The world is a truly incredible landscape of people and varying ways of life and we should vigorously and excitedly learn about and from them.

The winner will be announced on Wednesday, September 28th, so come on back and see if it’s you!

Embrace our world!
