Book Reviews, Encouragement, Life Is Beautiful

Raising Big Kids with Supernatural Love (Book Review)

Gentleness is seen as a strong quality. In Proverbs 25:15b, “a gentle tongue can break a bone.”

Raising children is tough.

I don’t think it’s ever been easy to be a parent, but I do think that parenting now may be more of a challenge than in any other era.

As parents, we face unique difficulties that our parents and grandparents didn’t have to contend with. The internet didn’t exist in past generations and with its arrival came a whole host of issues we must now monitor, offer guidance for, and protect against.

Raising Big Kids with a Supernatural Love written by Lori Wildenberg and Becky Danielson is a parenting handbook of sorts. As I read through it, I saw myself on many of the pages. I recognized some parenting mistakes and cringed at some. But I also discovered many things that I’m doing a better than decent job with.

Through each chapter of this book, very thoughtful points were raised and solid, loving parenting approaches were shared. Biblical principles, practical advice and viewpoints were offered throughout. This is a powerful parenting resource. As a mom to two teenagers, I found this incredibly valuable and will refer to it again and again, combing through it for advice, affirmation, and encouragement.

As the book’s cover states:

“Raising Big Kids with Supernatural Love reveals fifteen qualities of love to infuse into your family. These characteristics are demonstrated through vignettes and the authors’ conversational style, bringing 1 Corinthians 13 love to life in your parenting and in your young person.”

You’ll find unique perspectives into the lives and minds of pre-teens, tweens, and teens. We readers learn what makes them tick and how their viewpoints, attitudes, and needs differ greatly from ours as adults so we can adjust to meet their needs. We learn to tune into them so we can better communicate and parent them lovingly and effectively.

I appreciate the gentle nature of the book. It is judgement-free and supportive and loving. I hope you too will find similar wisdom and support within the pages of this book when you read it. Check out more about it on Amazon where can you even download it free to your Kindle right now, then come back here and join the conversation. We parents can learn a lot from each other and this book.
