I’ve dated projects, and they never turned out to be diamonds in the rough. They turned out to be projects.”

Dating is hard. It can be unpleasant and messy. It can also be an awesome adventure…

I had the recent pleasure of diving into the book “The Dating Manifesto: A Drama-Free Plan for Pursuing Marriage with Purpose” written by Lisa Anderson. Having two teen children and being not too long outside the dating world myself, this book piqued my interest quite quickly.

Melanie Pickett, The Dating Manifesto

How can one date effectively?

How can one date to find a lifelong mate?

How can all this be achieved in a healthy fashion?

How do we do it with God’s approval?

This book addresses these concepts and many additional ones. It dispels the myths of Hollywood romance. Real-life love isn’t what we see on the screen. Hollywood makes love look all dreamy and they tie it up in a pretty bow. Within a two-hour movie, all issues are resolved and no matter what glaring flaws or massive obstacles these on-screen lovebirds may have been facing at the beginning of the movie, by the end they all but dissolve into a happily ever after.

But Hollywood isn’t real life.

This is real life.

The Dating Manifesto shares that “between 93 and 96 percent of young adults today want to be married…almost the same percentage is confident that they someday will be.”  That’s a whole lot of people trying to get this dating thing right!

This book highlights the differences between males and females, each gender’s different needs, and how they operate and think differently. Lisa also addresses responsibility and expectation from a male and female viewpoint.  She shows an all-important to-do list including:

“Get Tight with Jesus”

“Take Responsibility”

and

“Love the People You’ve Got”

This is an important guide for you to read yourself as you pursue dating and equally is important and vital to read for and with your dating or near-dating children. We need to be whole and well ourselves, sure of who and Whose we are as we prepare for the ultimate partnership. Lisa addresses the issues in a way we can understand and that are relevant to today and that compel us to really think.

Complete with John Hughes reference, Lisa won me over with “The Dating Manifesto” and I’d like you to benefit from it as well. Please enter below to win your own copy, share the giveaway with friends, and come back often to enter!
