‘When Mountains Crumble’ Book Review

BlogAbout gifted me two (2) copies of ‘When Mountains Crumble’, one to read and offer my honest review and the other to gift away. I was not otherwise compensated and all reviews are honest and my own.

Have you ever lost someone you love? Was it your rock, your mainstay? ‘When Mountains Crumble’ is a solid resource about “rebuilding your life after losing someone you love.” The author, Danita Jenae, is a recent military widow who is “learning to carry both joy and sorrow in the same breath.”

Danita, a young mother and artist, is navigating this deep loss while living a Sprit-led life. From her book: Grief leaves us with empty arms and fistfuls of questions. If we don’t get help processing our loss, we can easily get stuck there. But take heart–there is hope for the path ahead.

When Mountains Crumble’ offers an interactive healing journey through the troubling questions and big emotions of grief. Danita Jenae meets you in your sorrow with gripping honesty, reassuring gentleness, and surprising witty humor.

I was asked to review this book some weeks back. During the time I was reading this to share with you, we coincidentally (or not…God knew), lost my dear mother-in-law. She had chronic illness for the past few years, but more acute illness recently, and passed at the age of just 72. I was very close to her. I felt this loss deeply for myself, but also for my husband. He lost his mother and is now like me, quite without both our parents.

Grief introduced itself to me early. At the age of 26, I lost my mother very suddenly one warm August morning. She was 59, healthy, and literally collapsed into Heaven. It left us reeling. She was my best friend, my first phone call every morning and my last one at night. She was my mom. Her loss was an inexplicable physical pain. Eight years later, my dad joined her in Heaven. Six years after that, I was widowed. By 40, I’d lost some key people from my life.

Grief leaves you flailing, drowning. There’s nothing like it and you want nothing to do with it. When Mountains Crumble is intriguing at first glance merely peeking at chapter titles: Fog and Shock (how grief affects you); Find Your Footing (soul-care); Derailed and Shaken (doubts + questions); and The Veil Between Heaven and Earth (you + your loved one). Those are just a few. Interested yet?

I appreciate that this book uses scripture of course. It’s also helpful that there are thoughtful questions and space to write your own answers. It has room for your feelings to flow and Bible passages to soothe your heart.
