Let Me Tell You About My Weekend

So I wanted to share with you about my weekend. I never do that. I don’t often give you a glimpse into my personal daily life too much and I thought, well, maybe it’s time. Prepare for pictures. Bear with me. All are cell phone pics and not the best, but you get the idea, right? Now keep reading…

Friends, have you seen Bohemian Rhapsody?! It’s sooo good. I’m a longtime fan of Queen and Freddie Mercury. I remember watching Live Aid live. I’m that old. The music is, of course, incredible. Freddie was a musical genius, and Queen is a master at anthems. But we don’t often get to go behind the eyes of a legend and see what his life was like and what the struggles were in his lonely rise to fame.

Have you seen it? What did you think? I haven’t read a negative review yet. I recommend it (obviously). Take a tissue and prepare for goosebumps.

On Saturday, my sweet daughter and I went to a women’s retreat with well-known blogger and Instagram-er Phylicia Masonheimer. Though we weren’t able to stay the entire day, we learned some great things and my daughter made a potential work connection for after she graduates college! Phylicia speaks and writes a lot about personal struggle and achieving our goals that God has for us. She is very knowledgeable in scripture and theology so if this is something you’re interested in, I highly recommend following her.

I took notes, as I always do. I’m a writer, after all. I do carry a notebook in my purse. I love one-liners, simple quotes that are profound so here’s one:

“If you want to change the world for Jesus, you have to let Him change your life.”

I liked that and made it good sense to me.

Something really valuable Phylicia talked about was why as Christians we sometimes believe some very different things. For example, if you were raised in a denomination, household or church where listening to rock ‘n roll was deemed wrong, and I was raised in a church and household where it was acceptable, we might carry those same views into adulthood. And neither of us are wrong, I believe.

What you watch on TV or in the movies or read, etc., those preferential issues, are between you and God. Are you feeling that twinge that you should turn off that show? Then maybe you should. But maybe someone else who’s also a Christian, doesn’t feel that twinge, but they might about another show or movie or book or…In those non-fundamental things, you’re both right because you’re following where God is leading you. I’m keeping that in mind as I go vote today.

And then, as if Saturday wasn’t full enough, my husband, son, and I went to see John Crist, Mike Goodwin, and Andrew Stanley, and laughed our butts off. You guys, they were each different, with different jokes of course, and different humor. But they were all hilarious and it was a perfect reminder that even as a Christian, I don’t need to be a prude. There really are some funny things about us to laugh about. Humans are great fodder for comedy. We’re all goofy in our own ways and that’s alright with me.

I tweeted while we were at the comedy show and we were featured on the jumbo screen!

My tweet made the big screen!

If you’re not familiar with these super funny comedians, you can find them on Instagram or their websites above. They push the envelope a little bit and that’s okay. They’re appropriate, they’re clean and family-friendly, but a little envelope pushing is quite alright in my book. I. Love. To. Laugh.

Sunday was more relaxed. We went to church and afterwards, took lunch to my mother-in-law’s house  and visited for a few hours before returning home to, as my kids would say, “just chill.” But I did wear this cute Old Navy dress that I scored for $12 on sale. There are four patterns and they’re all so cute for winter with boots or even spring or summer. They’re very lightweight.

There’s a weekend in my life. Most of our weekends aren’t that busy, but it’s the best weekend when I get to spend it with my whole family, which always brings me so much JOY.

So what did you do this weekend?

Laugh. Always laugh.
