Abuse and Self Care, Book Reviews

‘Little Girl Crying’ Book Review

“As a small child, Belinda had found comfort and sanctuary from those that abused and bullied her, in the arms of her imaginary friend, Jesus. It would be the deep love and devotion she’d felt for Him since childhood that would lead her on a journey of prayer to an incredible spiritual experience that would miraculously still the Voice of Anorexia, lift the darkness of depression and transform her life setting her on a new path.

Little Girl Crying is a story of survival. It’s a story of God’s love, mercy, and amazing grace, that affirms God is with us even when He is silent. But most of all, it is a message of hope and encouragement to all that suffer that says never give up, because our God is a God of healing and miracles!”

I was provided a copy of ‘Little Girl Crying’ by FrontGate Media so I could read it and offer my honest opinion. I was not otherwise compensated.

Belinda, for as long as she could remember, was made to feel useless, unwanted, and ugly. Her father abused her and her mother, though she loved Belinda so, didn’t have the courage to step in and stop it. Belinda’s dearest friend’s father gave her “ugly pills” for her birthday. Children bullied her at school.

She couldn’t control any of these things, but when the Voice emerged, Belinda learned she could control her weight and what food she ate, and the spiral into anorexia nervosa began. At the time, anorexia was barely heard of and a mystery how to treat. The cause was more of a mystery still, though Belinda knew it was the abuse, her childhood, and the rape by a trusted boyfriend that sent her into this dark abyss.

Throughout this struggle that spanned decades, Belinda clung to her friend Jesus. She prayed to Him and trusted only Him when no one else proved worthy of her trust.

This story is incredible, heartbreaking, full of strength, truth, awareness of mental illness and eating disorders, the dynamics of childhood abuse, sexual assault, and the damage it does when those things are covered up.

Belinda Rose wrote this story about herself. Belinda is a Christian Contemplative, inspirational writer, poet, and artist. Her work can be found at Belinda Rose and on Facebook.

This book isn’t merely about the difficult struggle a woman faced with anorexia and abuse, but it’s for all of us who struggle. The pain the little girl and young woman suffered at the hands of those she should have been able to count on, and the strength she mustered to live and eventually become a mother are just astounding elements in this powerful story.

You can read more about Belinda on her site, Facebook, and purchase her book on Amazon.

If you’ve ever had a deep struggle or are in one now, this is a very profound and encouraging book to see what this woman overcame and how she did it and made peace with it.
